About Marta

My love of flowers began as a child, while watching my grandmother, Jewel, working in the greenhouses of her central Indiana farm. She grew, nurtured, and sold flowers to the local population, and was well-known for her irises. I watched in wonder, sharing her knowledge and love of flowers with them as they returned every year to buy more.  She called me her Little Green Thumb.

During a 28-year career as a hair stylist, I spent every spare moment working in my yard, friends' yards, and in gardening classes, experimenting with everything Grandma had taught me. I earned a Master Gardener degree from Purdue University, and in 1995 my yard won the local garden tour People's Choice Award.

I realized my hobby had become more of a forte after I had so much fun arranging wedding flowers for the daughter of a friend. Out of that positive experience, a business soon blossomed, and began to flourish by word of mouth alone. I named it Hand Tied Memories. And today I provide custom floral creations for dozens of weddings every year. In 2007, I created "The Wedding March" Bridal Show, bringing brides together with wedding vendors. The show has been hugely successful; we're gearing up for our 5th consecutive year this-coming March.

In 2000 my husband and I built a home in the country where we spend most days landscaping and gardening. I spend nearly every weekend designing and delivering flowers for weddings. I've truly found my way to express my love of flowers, and to share it with others. My favorite part is handing a bride her wedding day bouquet, or watching her face light up as she steps into her decorated reception.

My 11-year old granddaughter spends a lot of time with us during the summer, and is fascinated with all the flowers. She always wants to know what kinds of flowers we're getting in each week, and how we'll be using them in the weddings. She helps me in my greenhouse and reminds me of myself with my grandmother. So I call her my Little Green Thumb.

I've been married for 30 years. I have 2 sons, a daughter-in-law, and 2 grandchildren. I graduated from Pendleton Heights and recently earned a degree in Organizational Leadership and Supervision from Purdue University.
